About Me.
As an Associate Professor in Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Medical Education, with over 20 years of experience, my work focuses on improving patient safety through communication, emphasizing physician-led care, and addressing the persistent disparities that disproportionately affect women and birthing people—particularly those from historically marginalized communities.
As a medical education leader, I have developed and implemented curricula that integrate communication skills, trauma-informed care, antiracism, and the clinical foundations of providing high-quality anesthetic care. I mentor trainees and interdisciplinary teams on optimizing equitable perioperative care. I also lead national workshops and lectures for faculty and institutional leaders on incorporating antiracism and trauma-informed competencies into medical education curricula and systems.
My commitment to this work deepened as I advocated for family members and myself. I had to navigate the gaslighting to find the authentic and empathetic caregivers I currently have, despite the letters behind my name. This personal journey forced me to become a more holistic physician exploring complementary, non-traditional methods to healing and wellness. It also strengthened my resolve to help shape systems that are more transparent, equitable, accessible and more responsive to the needs of BIPOC women.
I work to empower patients by listening, emphasizing disease prevention while amplifying their voices to mitigate future traumatic experiences and rebuild trust in systems that may have previously caused them harm.
To guide my consulting and advocacy work, I use the ParlezMD V.O.I.C.E.S. Framework.
This framework reflects my commitment to impacting health policy through advocacy and medical education to drive lasting change. Through consulting, curriculum development, policy advising, and community-centered engagement, I work to transform both how clinicians learn and how institutions deliver care—ensuring that every patient’s voice is heard.

Tamika W, VA
She didn't just explain the medical jargon; she equipped me with the exact questions I needed to ask my specialists to advocate for my preferences and gain better insight into what was happening with my body and my baby.
Valerie B, FL
With Chantal’s guidance, I found my voice. I learned how to ask the right questions, how to speak up when something didn’t feel right, and how to advocate for my mom with confidence. That clarity and empowerment didn’t just comfort me, it shaped her recovery.
